Artwork Drying happily the measures are 9” by 12” The admiration for the maker of this painting grew a couple years ago with this beauty. He’s pastel colors are hard to miss if not careful. He truly was a  master of color. The sentiment given to he’s models as well as the poses chosen, gives one the story. Hope that with each stroke the little painting bring a closer look in to the heart of the viewer. You also can admire, The Master Carrier.

Art original watercolor flower painting

Titled: “Rojo'”

ParrotTulipSuggest2

It’s being a wile since we don’t do a process blog or a live demo, decided to do this one because is important specially dealing with reds in watercolors, good for someone new to the medium and serves as a  reminder.

But first, what does a brand new clean sheet of watercolor paper means? It means planning, plotting and more planning, specially now that materials are so costly,  can’t Imagine starting in watercolors and having to ruin a sheet every single time this is of course, if you are using professional materials.  If you like, a good resistant watercolor paper that can withstand the horrors, puddles, picking up and scrubs of a “master in progress”  good watercolor papers will be 140lb  Fabriano Artistico, Arches, and Canson Montvall.  If you think got a long way with watercolors, Strathmore will do the  job, lately Strathmore has come out with beautiful sheets of good professional quality watercolor paper, mainly comes in a pack that you can also use for practice,  if you prefer.

Does  materials matter? Yes and No, you probably where expecting a better answer, but the matter of fact is that, I’ve found that when using student grade materials often had to use more quantity of paint as well as the brushes, kinda left me hanging, not to mention the paper was done over by the third “puddle”, but they are necessary, specially for practice.  Notice also I’ve mention “puddle”  this is frankly what comes out when we first start with the medium.  This means patience is key and practice.

Now, What advantages do you get when using professional materials? Durability and better pigmentation, good quality watercolors paint survive a long time and the brushes as well, this means that perhaps you might need a little more change for your materials. But it will be worth it!  Does professional materials helps the artwork look or come out as in better?   That is a tricky question because there’s so many paintings in my experience, that have being done with professional materials yet there’s no remedy. So again this has to do with your own hands on training not necessarily the materials… in other words, will be just a good quality puddle.  By the way you should keep those, with in time you can see your own progress.

When mixing watercolor  red paints, does it matter? yes it does, Good watercolorists  must be acquaintance with the type of paints we are using, for example is it transparent, staining or non staining? for us to get to know the properties even if is in the label, is good to do a paper test prior to use, majority of watercolor companies have theirs already for your viewing, yet, you should always do your own test with the type of paper your using.

DSC08491

Red on Reds on Reds. This means that the painting was layered  from start to finish with different red colors, first transparent, then adding the staining little by little, letting it dry in intervals but not completely. As the example, you can see how red was used and where medium or dark  where need it, a mixture of blue and red was added, to give strength to the next layer, also note where  darkest shadows where need it, a staining color was added, this helps with time.

Can you achieve the same by a direct approach? The purpose of  layers in my case is for the colors to overlap, this makes it as unique, also helps with transparency in some of the colors and light, you must remember that an important aspect of watercolor painting is light.

Hope, we can continue exploring the world of watercolors and other mediums together, this is the technical part of the red drape.  Yet for me the must important is for you to learn, to be and have patience with your self, to continue progressing and painting.

Oil painting two women

“on the Atsion lake”

actionpaint2

Say yes to random! see what else is there in your reference photos?  There is a vast potential for more than just one painting in one single photo, action painting is a way of keeping your mind, fresh and full of ideas.

For this painting Anders Zorn came back to mind a master in completing he's figures with a limited palette  and whom I’ve had the pleasure to study for the past several years. The randomness in action of  must of he’s nudes figures gave me the zing to try this one out, abstracting as much as possible every trace of detail.

Tools to keep your creativity flow

Do something Art related no matter how small a simple doodle or Idea can become a beautiful thing later on.

The Importance of writing,

This is one important step to unclogged your self, It is important that you write if you want your self to become more fluent, original  in your creativity even if is a small thing or a entire full page of nagging, there’s something that unplugs from self that really helps.

  Exercise:

Running is the must rewarding thing if you can not run for medical or health reasons, at least a walk or two around the block will help, not to mention it keeps your heart pumping and your system in check and  Oxygenated, this helps also to relief stress.  From cleaning the window's to do the cha-cha.  The must  important thing here is to sweat. Set your self a time during the day to walk around. Drink plenty of water, eat well.  This  helps you to keep a healthy weight get rid of toxins and flush your system.

The Importance of Giving

Giving and helping with out asking, is one of full rewards… it does not has to be always monetary a simple smile or a hug saying to some one how much you appreciate them and love them, this will help to have a healthy  focus in others, rather than your self, and keeps your mind busy. Must of all this is a way of loving your self so you can display the same interest and love to others.

This is an example of one of the doodles done wile writing that stuck in mind after a long run,

nokiddingdoodle

This is the painting that came out from that doodle…

red

Of course all this things are suggestions, and might as well take a little time so have patience , and don’t rush just do as much as you can.  As with everything else, always do things with balance this is achieved with time, set your self limits don’t over do things. Must of all have fun, engaging in activities and enjoying the creative process, even those mistakes will bring you a smile.

Understanding New Art Work

So much that we can say about our brush strokes that goes in to the canvas like single phrases of pure poetry, the music, the love, enchanting laughs of mistakes and no no’s, but we continue… for the Art and for our sake and so forth. But what are we really portraying?   This might not be as pretty as it looks, to understand a painting or artwork can take an entire different meaning for us. I thought it was fair to explain this painting because it is about time.  It is important to do this and it will be easier for the viewer, gives more value and heaviness to your paintings as well.

A resent visit, told me that it was amazing once the painting was explained to them, this was in the case of the artwork  titled conception in which it is representing Cycle of Life, when I told them the flower is pregnant, if you look closer… and point out… it is carrying a fetus, the artwork became serious, and enticing to them, I felt it was my responsibility to give them the (representational) meaning. The artwork  has many other connections, but after that, became something to appreciate more and admire.

New Artwork on Hot Press Watercolor Paper.

DSC07042

Now about New Artwork, we must also understand that is still early we are also finding our selves in a painting, I am in the mode of stepping back and asking, what is the next step?~ The next step can take weeks or perhaps minutes, don’t precisely know this, but so far will explain some of it as much as I can.

The black background on the right, since I am a right sided painter it means mystery, death, the subtle, unknown, creativity itself, but if you look the entire painting can be read from right to left as well .  The black sugar cup, jar or bowl it also represents the same, sort of like a box of Pandora. you can see it is not opened.   All of my works are representing of something… that is going on around, I also include other things : For example , War, famines, disloyalty, Jealousy, etc…that you can tell by my obvious use of colors and the disconnected patterns.

But since despite what is going on… I know there’s still good and beauty that is how the entire picture connects. Making a strong statement about your Art should be important to you.   In my case,  must important is the skill, that  endurance, trial and error, that we must go trough, regardless if the artwork it is liken by us others or not.  The purpose also of giving a chance to elevate the medium value~ which is Watercolors.

Betty The Cow" ACEO

Howdy! Had the Opportunity to work with this beautiful painting called Betty The Cow", It's an ACEO that is done in Acrylics with a bit of gel medium to give some textures and a more realistic outlook She measures 3.5" by 2.5 inches and is just lovely" roaming in the pastures on a beautiful sunny day.
Lets Begin!

For this project we are using cobalt Blue, Mars Black, different blenders and mop brushes, small liners and everything that can work up to a nice miniature card, always remembering the contour on the Animals face muscle mass, characteristics and anatomy.

A mixture of Raw Sienna Burnt Umber was used as a Raw or Preliminary Sketch using the brush strokes as a guidance...The background was done with a layer of Cerulean Blue nothing was added except thin layers of water . Making sure to be as precised as possible not affecting her form in any ways, just going around, this was done quick. Starting her ears with a mixture of blue and black more blue was added as consecutive layers.

Now let's face it! no curious Caw will have an adorable face" unless you decided and give it to it, so mixtures of alizarin Crimzon, White and Raw Sienna played the part on giving a bunny feeling to her cheekies and also her nose not to mention nostrils and her eyes..Remember to capture her personality! This is where Imagination plays Rotten!! and you can even give it a Caricature feeling by giving shapes to her eyes, change directions as well as mouth or just leave it as is..Betty was looking Fine" but at this point she is missing a lot, on her character let's see..

Betty is not Betty with out her marks! and so doing this very carefully splatter paint all over with an old toothbrush and also with a small liner making sure to make them separate enough all over her body as well as her face and nose.. highlights where also done and going a bit further by giving her nice eyelashes. Betty The cow is sure pleased!

Did you enjoy the Process of Betty The Cow? Please Make sure to visit my website on Etsy shop WaterinArt.etsy.com where Betty is up in Display Varnished and all happy happy!! oh and Mooooooo....Thanks!!
