"Red Flowers" Passion for red flowers, my parrot tulips a Journey" Oil painting by Mary Vargas

"Red Flowers" Passion for red flowers, my parrot tulips a Journey" Oil painting by Mary Vargas

work in progress of the parrot tulip in red.

When spring gets here, what is the first thing that pops in to your mind? Trees in different colors, the new smell of flowers blooms, many beautiful things sprouting, delicious new veggies, fruits, we let go slowly of our coats,  we come out to the sun!  like we never seen light before. People are much more happier on this season as well,  and we live in a air conditioning setting that is to envy..or just my experience as a generalized parable...

For us painters is also our favorite time of the year, because we get to see and smell and Paint! all those colors, or those flowers, and  landscapes...we get to experience at first glance beauty, a new color, yep, i got it! mixed in to our palettes...ahhh' we say:  ~this is life and life it self, we work hard, all day!

This painting however, was painted in the coldest month of the winter, December, with a photo as reference...my want,.. is spring! and is very pungent and colorful, looking at the painted canvas the other night, and said wow.. look at you, zoomed in to the flower,  wanted to convey a cozy, well round bulb of red, and all that pollen, ... good thing tho, this flower is allergy free.

When painting, yes you can do that, you can go as far as spring, and enjoy yourself in all those colors, and imagine all those flowers...

This, is the final result: colors are red, green, purple mixed in various whites, and darks burnts. The blue is my must favorite a mix of prussian blue..

List of materials used: Long bristles square, round, flats, 1,4,6 for the background a bit of ochre
also: I use several brands. Rembrandt, Gambling, Grumbacher and blick oils. using a sheet of canva cotton wrapped, usually steady with several clamps.

Here is a photo directly from my easel, side ways for better lighting and you can see the details.

Iris Flower oil painting still life

Titled: “Growing Wild”

Giving them an “ants view” bottom up, to see this majestic and beautiful flower, in a different perspective, immediately fell in love with it’s  translucent whites and flow on the background as if nature it self plays a symphony to feast our eyes.

My respects and after the master, Van Gogh who continues to be one of my must beloved and interesting painters to follow up to this day, When I saw this set of Irises said: Have to try them!

The Queens of Spring”

Spring is the season that strives in colors and what better reason to take out the watercolors from that dusty compartment and give them back their dignity, in just right of time, they finally agreed to teach me a lesson of two with undertone. And the adventure, began!

The miniatures are the new experiment with color techniques and undertones, the results so far excellent, treating watercolors with the same care and respect as if oils. The advantage that the medium gives to light, absolutely no comparison.

Watercolor flower and moth painting

titled: “Learning to see the wings”

KIMH

A very good friend of mine, told me, “Learn to see the Butterfly  wings in people”, she told me then, what a butterfly really looks like, when you turn it over is an ugly worm. But when you look at the overall picture, is a beautiful creation.

Learning to see the good in others or learning to not judge others, is not always an easy task, but it is worth it! unless, you don’t talk and listen to people get to know them, there’s not much point on going with the thought of (he or she is just a bug), is negative and has no value, and not healthy for you.

Yet, must understand that sometimes, no matter how good we are to others,  not always you will, get a positive result.  If that is the case well, We must give attention to whom really appreciates the time, and respect us.

Don’t get me wrong, after the conversation, as a joke in reply I said, So,… what if, I picture that person as a water bug?  she nodded.

Titled: “Learning to see the wings”, in watercolors on Canson 140lb paper, size is 5” by 7”, slightly darker, signed, cropped for better view, pre printed, acid free, post card,  Painting made in honor of my beautiful friend Kim.

watercolor flower painting poppy

poppiesfinal

Watercolor flower poppy 22” by 30”

The  goal for this one was to incorporate  movement with in the flower by adding extra petals, abstraction and form combined with high color loaded with energy and intensity, the flower was positioned off center for a better view.

But not all this is just mainly technical there’s a lot of feelings in to them, painting just to paint…don’t think so… But painting with feelings, good energy, perhaps memories or conversations… makes it more interesting.

~The artist in a room full of people he or she is the one in a corner making notes, sketching and observing… everything is interesting an never boring.
